Senior Football Club Championship Playoff
Kilcummin 1-10 Kerins O’Rahillys 2-12
We left Austin Stack Park on Sunday last with a mixture of emotions, disappointed at losing our senior status, mystified and frustrated at some decisions. However the overriding feeling was one of great pride. Our players and mentors gave it everything and despite a number of injuries we left with our heads held high after a very competitive and entertaining game. It brings to an end a 20 year journey as a senior club that saw us reach a Senior County Championship final in 2002, a Semi-Final and Replay in 2007 along with a Munster Senior Club Semi-Final the same year and a Minor County Championship title in 2010.
Sunday’s game saw us play some of our best football of the year and at half-time both sides had scored 1-4 apiece. Kevin McCarthy finished sublimely to the net after an outstanding catch and pass from Kevin Gorman who had a fine game throughout. Brendan Kealy had opened the scoring with a long range free, Matt Keane and Noel Duggan accounting for the other scores. A quick start to the second-half saw Matt Keane and Brendan Kealy add further points but O’Rahillys matched us score for score. Despite some powerful defending and further scores courtesy of Noel Duggan and Kevin McCarthy we found ourselves trailing by two points with two minutes left.
However following a free awarded to O’Rahillys that left most spectators scratching their heads to put it mildly, the ball ended up in the net to put a five point margin between the teams and a flattering scoreline for the winners. Our next game is against Dr Crokes in the O’Donoghue Cup scheduled for Saturday week November 4th in Lewis Road.
