A Poem for the Champions!

That great local Poet, Patrick Culloty has done it again. He has written a poem on Kilcummin’s County Minor Championship Win. It goes as follows:

On a bright September evening, On the field beside the Laune, Kilcummin took South Kerry on, For the County Minor crown.

South Kerry were strong favourites, And that without a doubt, But the stalwarts from Kilcummin, Were the men to win it out.

Shane Murphy was the goalie, No better can be got, He brought off some brilliant saves, As agile as a cat.

With O’Sullivan and O’Leary, It was hard to get a score, On the other wing was James Devane, Who wore the number four.

Fitzgerald and O’Leary who broke down every attack, Along with Patrick Buckley Who played at centre back.

Chris O’Leary burst right up the field, Now the stage was set, Murphy passed to Nagle, and the ball was in the net.

Midway through the second half, The game was lost and won, The Kilcummin were rampant now, With South Kerry on the run.

The McCarthys and Duggan are as good as we have seen, TJ Moriarty on the other wing, His number was thirteen.

Another Mastergeeha man, we often saw before, That good full forward Ian Devane, Who got the vital score.

Three others who played that day, And helped to spin the wheel, They were the super subs, Ryan, Sheehan and O’Neill.

Tony Sugrue trained this team, With plenty dash and fire, A man with all the football skills, The same as Mick Dwyer.

Congratulations to the selectors too, These men we must admire, The most important part of any team, Are the men behind the wire.
