Senior Club Notes 30.4.17

Castleisland Mart Senior Club Championship

Our senior team travelled to Rathmore on Wednesday last and took part in an epic struggle with the hosts but unfortunately finished up losing by a single point. We were blitzed by a rampant Rathmore in the first twelve minutes and found ourselves trailing by 11 points after 15 mins. However the second quarter saw us take a grip at midfield and score some excellent points to finish the half trailing by 2-11 to 0-11.

After a shaky first few minutes of the second half when Rathmore missed a couple of good chances we regained control and edged closer to the opposition as the half progressed. A well taken penalty by Kieran Murphy and an inspirational point by Philip Casey saw us draw level with minutes remaining but with extra time looming Rathmore raided once more and kicked over the winning score. There was heartbreak at the final whistle for our players, mentors and supporters but little consolation for their heroic efforts.

We now face Dingle in a relegation battle on Sunday next @ 2pm in a venue as of yet to be decided.

GAA Golf Classic

Our annual fund raiser was a tremendous success on Saturday last in Killarney Golf Club. A course in excellent condition, a large number of teams and a great atmosphere made this an enjoyable occasion. We are greatly indebted to our many sponsors of teams and tee boxes, a hard working committee, Kilcummin Post Office and Rural Development Office Staff and our many loyal supporters who rallied to the call once again.

This year we were lucky to have the sponsorship of a Kilcummin /Australian link which raised enough money abroad to pay for the course on the day. Anthony, Patrick and Killian O’Sullivan, sons of Paddy Ballinamanagh, Kieran Lynch, Ronan O’Connor, Kevin McSweeney, Anthony O’Sullivan (Ulick) Inchicullane, Rosco Daley, David Healy and Sean O’Connor (Dunrine) are all living in Australia and were happy to support their home club.

Winners on the day were a Jimmy O’Brien’s Bar with a score of 61pts represented by Peter O Brien (9), Stephen Loughnane (18) and Michael Lynch (18). Team and tee boxes will appear on our website in the coming weeks.
