Senior County Championship Round 3

St Kierans 0-21 Kilcummin 1-13

Having the greater possession and been very competitive in the first half, we totally lost our way in the third quarter conceding 11pts without reply. Indeed, we retired on level terms 0-8 each at the break after an entertaining first 30 minutes in which no team were ever more than two points ahead. Noel Duggan accounted for four of those points while Shane McSweeney (twice), Gary O’Leary and Sean O’Leary also rowed in with scores.

After 15 mins of the second half Kevin McCarthy was introduced for his first game in six months and the improvement was very evident after that. Firstly, he found Enda O Sullivan with a long pass and Enda found the bottom corner of the net. There was a much livelier approach from our lads after that as Sean O Leary and Noel Duggan twice converted. Although we never looked like reeling in St Kierans Kevin McCarthy’s two late points put a better complexion on the scoreboard and sent supporters home somewhat happier.

Kilcummin’s next game is a relegation game against Rathmore on Saturday October 26th at a time and venue yet to be decided.

Team: Brendan Kealy; Sean O’Leary (0-2), Donal Maher, Oscar O’Connor; James Nagle, Kevin McSweeney, Damien O’Leary; Kevin Gorman, Kieran Murphy; Shane McSweeney (0-2), Gary O’Leary (0-1), Matt Keane, Enda O’Sullivan (1-0), Noel Duggan (0-6, 6f), Paul O’Shea, Subs Used: Jamie O’Donoghue, Kevin McCarthy (0-2) Sean Moynihan, Mikey O’Shea, Philip Casey, William Maher.

Congratulations to our Senior Ladies who won the County League Division 3 Final in Fitzgerald Stadium on Sunday last.

The death took place recently in Canada of Joe Sheehan who played senior football with Kilcummin from 1960 to 1966. He played in the O’Donoghue Cup final in 1966 and shortly afterwards emigrated to Canada. The GAA club offers its sympathies to the Sheehan family. May he rest in peace.
