Senior Club Notes 1.7.18

Co Junior League Rd 5: Kilcummin are at home to Annascaul on this Friday at 7.30pm. Support would be welcome as the lads press for a place in the final.

Credit Union Co League Rd 8: Kilcummin 3-22 Na Gaeil 0-9

From the off Kilcummin took the game to their hosts who were missing a number of key players and playing some good running and free flowing football the game was effectively over at half time. Goals by Damien O’Leary, and John McCarthy twice helped us to a 3-9 to 0-3 lead at the break. Kilcummin kicked a further 13 points in the second half as the management team introduced a number of substitutes in the very warm conditions. This result sees us go 2nd in the table with a number of difficult games remaining.

Our defence was outstanding as a whole with James Nagle, Donal Maher and Chris O’Leary to the fore. Kevin Gorman and Shane McSweeney controlled midfield and supplied the forwards with plenty of ball giving the likes of John McCarthy, Damien O’Leary and Ian Devane the opportunity to shine.

Inter-County Success: We enjoyed an amazing week of reflected glory revelling in the achievements of our players playing in the Green and Gold. Pride of place this week goes to Kieran Murphy who captained the Kerry Juniors to a Munster title on Wednesday and turned in a powerful performance in midfield to overcome a good Cork team. Sean O’Leary followed this up on Friday night when he was part of the Kerry U-20’s that also defeated Cork in this inaugural Munster final, scoring two crucial points from play. All this added to Kevin McCarthy, Paul O’Shea and Keith O’Leary’s achievements last week means five Munster medals have come to the club as well as the honour of two captaincies in the space of a week. Well done to all concerned.

Sympathy is extended to the family of former Kilcummin player James Sheehan who passed away during the week. May he rest in peace.
